Funny Food Friday: una merenda feroce?! - a wild treat?!

Ciao!
Ho tagliato mezzo kiwi a bambino.
ciaociao

Hello!
I’m sorry, in the last two weeks I didn’t upload much. We went to visit some interesting places that I’m sharing with you very soon.
I changed house so we were busy with that. But now I’m back.
Today I’m gonna show you a super extra fast way to make a quick and cute treat. I made this for the kid and his friend a few weeks ago.
I bought some little cream krapfen and chocolate puddings at the supermarket.
I sliced half a kiwi for each kid. Then I decorated both the pudding and the krapfen with chocolate and white chocolate pen making a bear  face out of the pudding and a tiger face from the krapfen. And here are our animals in the nature!
It was very simple because I didn’t have to prepare anything, but the kids loved it because totally unexpected.
I promise I’ll be back soon.

Funny Food Friday: Pankeball!

Ciao a tutti!
Buon divertimento!
ciaociao

Funny Food Friday: la signora scompigliata - the ruffled lady

Ciao a tutti!
A presto,
ciaociao

Hi everyone!
Ready for the Funny Food Friday?
This is a meal I prepared a few days ago for dinner. The kid was hungry and said he wanted spaghetti and the hamburger we found at the supermarket and never tried before: rabbit meat hamburger.
The ingredients I used are:
-spaghetti
-soy butter
-rabbit hamburger
-two little round slices of cheese (any cheese you like)
-10 small rectangular pieces and 2 small round pieces of nori sheet
-a small piece of carrot
-mayonnaise
-2 small slices of pickles (but you can use olives)
I brought the water to a boil in the pot, added some cooking salt and the spaghetti and let it cook until done.
Meanwhile I cooked the hamburger in a pan with just a little bit of oil, salt and pepper.
I cut the nori sheet and also the carrot giving it a shape of a smiling mouth.
When both pasta and hamburger were ready, I flavored the pasta with a little bit of soy butter (you can also use regular butter and you can add some Parmesan cheese) because I wanted to keep it simple and light.
I put the hamburger in the centre of the plate and added the spaghetti all around to make the hair. Then I added the cheese, the pickles and the round nori on the hamburger for the eyes. I also added the other nori to create the cilia. I also put the carrot smiling mouth and a little of mayonnaise in the centre for the nose.
Done!
Maybe it’s not perfect but I did it with what I had in the kitchen at the moment, and that’s the purpose.
It doesn’t have to be perfect, it has to be fun!
The kid really liked it because the face was actually funny!
Try it and enjoy!
See you soon,

ciaociao

Funny Food Friday: uovo fruttato ed altre ricette - fruit egg and other recipes

In two days it will be Easter so for today’s Funny Food Friday we’ll have some themed ideas J

First, for breakfast you could prepare a bunny pancake: it’s just normal pancake shaped as a bunny with body, head, ears and feet. I filled the body with chocolate cream and strawberry and the head with chocolate cream and banana. For the feet I used sliced banana and halved blueberry. The pompon  tail is made of whipped cream.

Then an idea for lunch: prepare a hamburger (whatever you like), some salad, carrot and tomato and it’s done! Put the salad in your plate making a circle and put some flower shaped carrots on it. Then put in the middle the cooked hamburger. Place two slices of tomato (or, if you prefer, two oval pieces of some other hamburger) on the hamburger to make the feet on a bunny. Then use the mayonnaise to “draw” the tail and the feet. And here you have a funny bunny butt!!! J

Last I suggest some fruit. I prepared some fruit salad in a bowl adding sugar and lemon juice to all the cut fruits. Then I took some of the fruits and tried to create an Easter egg with different colors and patterns. You can use the fruit you prefer and let your imagination do the job for a very colorful fruit egg J

ciaociao

Hope you enjoyed these ideas.
See you tomorrow for a quick and easy Easter craft.

Funny Food Friday: una cena polare - a polar dinner

Ciao a tutti,

Ingredienti:
-hamburger di pesce o di carne
-riso cotto al vapore
-alga nora in fogli
-prosciutto cotto
-insalata
-formaggio a fette
-olive nere
-carota
-pomodorini

A presto,
ciaociao

Hi everyone,
here we are again with our Funny Food Friday and a … polar lunch/dinner!

I made this dinner this week, even though it’s spring and the temperature outside is getting warm.
I had this fish burger that I wanted to cook, but no bread available. And, strange enough, burgers are not the kid favorite food, even though he eats them.
So I thought to characterize it a bit to make it fun.

Ingredients:
-fish or meat burger
-steamed rice
-nori sheets
-ham
-salad
-cheese slice
-black olives
-carrot
-tomatoes

First I made the Japanese steamed rice. When ready I made 2 rice burgers 1 cm thick with a measuring cup that I have that is round and 1cm thick, the perfect size to make a rice hamburger. Then I coated with soy sauce both sides of 1 of the burgers, and I covered in soy sauce only 1 side of the burger left.
While I started cooking the fish burger I put in another pan the 2 rice burgers to cook a bit with their soy sauce. I only didn’t cooked the white side of one burger ‘cause I wanted it to keep white.
Meanwhile I cut the nose, the eyes and the mouth of a bear from nori sheet and cut 3 ham circles. I kept 2 circle round and I cut 1 in half to have two semicircles.

I cut with a cookie cutter a couple of penguins out of cheese slice and with two other small cookie cutters I made the feet and the beaks of the penguin out of carrot. Then cut black olives to make the eyes, the head fur and the flippers.
Then I sliced a carrot and with a mini cookie cutter I cut small fishes.
Then I cut the tomatoes in half diagonally, twisted one part and created some hearts, that actually have nothing to do with the Pole, but still…    They were cute J
When the burgers were done I put on the plate the rice burger covered in soy sauce, the fish burger and the other rice burger with the white side on top. I added the nori nose, mouth and eyes and the two ham circles for the cheeks.
Then I made two small little balls of rice and stuck them on the bear head using two small raw spaghetti pieces and placed the ham semicircles on them to create the ears of the polar bear.
I put some salad on the plate and the carrot fishes on it,  then I placed on it also the cheese penguins.
In the end I put the tomato hearts.

And violà!
Quite fast and easy J
And the kid was super happy and enjoyed it a lot!
Hope you’ll try to make it.
See you soon
ciaociao

ciaociao

One month ago the kid was sick.
After the first 2-3 days, when he didn’t want to eat much, he started to eat a lot again J
One of those days, at lunch, I decided to cook him some of his favorite food: pasta and bread.
I cooked some tuna pasta.
With the bread I made a cute bear face and shaped the fruit as a butterfly and a rabbit J
For the bear you’ll need:
-a round sandwich
-ham
-tomatoes
-sausage
-cheese slice

-nori
-raw spaghetti
Cut the sandwich in half and fill it with ham and tomatoes. Cut a round piece of cheese and two little semicircles. Cut the extremity of the sausage. Then cut it in half and cook it. Cut two little pieces of raw spaghetti and use it to put the sausage ears in the sandwich to make them stand. Put the cheese semicircles on the sausage and the big circle on the sandwich. Then cut two eyes and the nose and the mouth with the nori and put it on the sandwich. And it’s done.
It’s really cute and the kid loved it J

Funny Food Friday: Colazione (e pranzo) da Baymax - Breakfast (and lunch) at Baymax's

ciaociao

In December we went to the cinema to watch Big Hero 6.
Love at first sight, it was. The kid loved it so much.
I can’t even decide which is my favorite now between Baymax and Totoro (which was my number one until December).

And Sanfransokyo is really my kind of place!

The kid melts everytime he sees Baymax and I thought to cook him something.

The morning of my 34th birthday I made a special pancake for me so here’s the one I made for him: Baymax face.
I made the pancake, added a layer  of Nutella and then covered it with whipped cream.
I cut in two a round chocolate to make the eyes ad cut a stripe of Kit Kat chocolate to connect the eyes.
He li-----ked it!

Then a few weeks ago he was at home from school because he was a little sick, and didn’t want to eat much. So I prepared this Baymax (with no filling in this case), a little bit of ham and okura for the flowes, and carrots for other flowers. That’s it, easy peasy.
He loved it so so so much.

And you all? Did you see Big Hero 6? Did you like it?

Buon anno della pecora! - Happy year of the sheep!

Pronta in 10 minuti.

Buon weekend
Ciaociao

Happy year of the sheep!

Yesterday was the Chinese new year.  2015 is the year of the sheep and I wanted to let my kid know about this tradition. So I thought to make a special menu that I believe makes a perfect Funny Food Friday J

First of all we had somen.

It was some days my kid went on asking for Japanese noodles, so I cooked this kind of very thin noodles and at the same time I prepared the mentsuyu sauce (made with sake, mirin, soy sauce, konbu and katsuobushi) to dip the somen in. It’s all really easy, it really takes just 10 minutes.

Before putting the noodles in the boiling water I tied them  at the edge with some cooking twine so that it was  easier to roll them when cooked.

If you don’t like noodles or you can’t find them in your place, you can use spaghetti with cream sauce or oil or cheese or whatever you like.

When the noodles were ready I rolled them and put ‘em on a plate. Then I added a circle I cut out from a ham slice, added a couple of spring onion rings with 2 nori seaweed circles for the eyes of the sheep (you can use cheese and olives)… and the sheep it’s done!

I also prepared a yogurt cake. I just bought the cake mix in the store, then added butter and yogurt and followed the instructions. Ready in 10 minutes. When the cake was ready, I drew on the surface some circles with a little fork and then I put it in the fridge for a couple of hours.

Then I melted some milk chocolate and drew the sheep face and legs, I put 2 sugar eyes  I bought a while ago in a candy store on the chocolate face , made everything cool in the fridge and put ‘em on the cake before serving.

The kid really appreciated it, and it was a nice occasion to make him learn something about the Eastern culture (the origin is Chinese but this tradition is celebrated in Japan and South Korea as well).

The story of the origin of the Chinese zodiac is really interesting, so I’ll tell you about it soon.

Have a nice weekend

ciaociao

Di San Valentino ed altri menù - On Valentine's Day and other menus

When my kid was five, almost 3 years ago, I started celebrating festivities I barely considered since that moment. The reason is I wanted to create special memories and show my love to the kid doing something special with and for him.
So we started celebrating Halloween, Valentine’s Day, the Japanese こどもの日 (kodomo no hi, children’s day) and, this year also 節分 (Setsubun, for info read my article here).

Saturday was Valentine’s day and I wanted to make something special for him, something that he didn’t expected. Some days before I was watching the Youtube channel of  Ochickeron and I saw her great idea of an edible chocolate photo frame, so I stole her idea and prepared some chocolates (we don’t have cute ones here in shops like they have in Japan, so I created some with my chocolate molds) and I assembled everything the night before Valentine’s day, while the kid was sleeping. I had fun creating it with chocolates, marshmallows and sprinkles.

Then, in the morning I created a nice plate for breakfast: a cherry and choco pudding I made the previous day with fresh fruits, some heart shape chocolates I made, some typical treats of this period (the supermarkets sell them for carnival) that I bought – they’re called “chiacchiere”, some more fresh fruit and a glass of choco-milk.
I placed it on the table with the chocolate photo frame, 2 little gifts I bought for him, the Valentine’s card and a lot of origami hearts all around.

Ero molto contenta J

He didn’t remember it was Valentine’s day so when he woke up he was very surprised and happy.
He liked the photo frame so much and he thought it was so nice that he couldn’t believe I haven’t bought it and he wanted proofs I really made it at home! I was so happy J

Then all meals were about Valentines day, of course!
Lunch: heart shaped cocoa pasta with speck, walnuts and cream sauce and a heart shaped muffin with fresh fruits.
Dinner: heart shaped focaccia with ham and salami and pink radicchio salad.

We also gave some other muffins and chocolates to grandpa, granny and auntie, of course.

He liked the little toys he received and he played a lot, we also played together and we had fun. At the end of the day he was so happy he said it was one of the best days of his life! And he gave me my Valentine’s day gift: many kisses and hugs J
So happy I could make him happy. It’s so nice to make him smile.

It’s a bit late but I want to share with you also the menu for the night of Setsubun, 2 weeks ago.
In the morning I made a couple of pancakes with a ogre shape filled with Nutella that he liked a lot!
As I wrote here, I decided to make ehomaki, and I made 2 different versions: one for the kid (more western style) and one for me (more Japanese style).

Qui la foto con gli ingredienti.
Here’s the pic with the ingredients.

so proud of my oboro denbu
He ate all his ehomaki in silence. He actually had fun because he tried to communicate using the kids’ dumb alphabet that he likes a lot.

I also cooked little rolls of pizza as anything round is said to bring fortune. And I put on the table also peanuts, typical of this day, and also some potato chips that have a shape that looks like the ogre’s horn.

He had fun throwing the beans at me and he went to bed smiling.

Spero vi sia piaciuto quest post. Che cosa vi piace festeggiare? Come lo festeggiate?
Hope you liked this post. What do you like to celebrate? How do you celebrate it?

Mr. & Mrs. Fruit

Buongiorno!!!

Ciaociao J

Hello!!!
Here I am again, after more than a year. Soooooooo sorry!
I’ve been quite busy, but I’ll really try to update the blog more constantly.
Today is Friday, so why don’t we start with a FFF? Funny Food Friday?
Let’s see another couple of ideas to cheer up our little monkeys J for breakfast.

The first preparation is a middle aged gentleman all made of  fruit:
-two thick apples for the  eyes base and a thin slice for the mouth
-a couple of grapes for the nose
-two slices of banana for the eyes again
-some chopped strawberry for the cheeks
-some blue food gel to decorate the eyes and create beard and the mono lens

Then we have a lady:
-mixed strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries for the curly short hair
-two peach slices for the ears
-two blackberries for the earrings
-a small banana with skin for the mouth
-a couple of round biscuits for the eyes
- a small biscuit for the nose

And voilà, it’s this simple!
I only used stuffs I had at home, I didn’t buy anything to create this on purpose. I just created getting inspired with what I had in the kitchen.
You can really create anything just using a little bit of creativity.
Do you create with your food? Do you like food art?

Stay tuned, I’m uploading the pictures of our Halloween Party very soon.
