Di San Valentino ed altri menù - On Valentine's Day and other menus

Quando mio figlio aveva 5 anni, quasi 3 anni fa, ho iniziato a celebrare delle feste che non avevo praticamente mai considerate fino a quel momento. L’intento era quello di creare dei ricordi speciali e di dimostrargli il mio amore facendo qualcosa di speciale per lui.

Così abbiamo iniziato a festeggiare Halloween, San Valentino, il giapponese こどもの日(kodomo no hi, giorno dei bambini) e, quest’anno anche il 節分  (Setsubun, per le info leggete il mio articolo qui).

When my kid was five, almost 3 years ago, I started celebrating festivities I barely considered since that moment. The reason is I wanted to create special memories and show my love to the kid doing something special with and for him.

So we started celebrating Halloween, Valentine’s Day, the Japanese こどもの日 (kodomo no hi, children’s day) and, this year also 節分 (Setsubun, for info read my article here).

Sabato era San Valentino e volevo fargli qualcosa di speciale, qualcosa che non si aspettasse. Qualche giorno prima stavo guardando il canale Youtube di Ochikeron e ho visto questa sua idea fantastica di una cornice per foto completamente edibile, quindi le ho rubato l’idea e ho preparato alcuni cioccolatini (non ne abbiamo di così carini nei negozi qui come invece hanno in Giappone, quindi li ho fatti io con gli stampi in silicone) e ho assemblato tutto la sera prima di San valentino, mentre il bimbo dormiva. Mi sono divertita a crearla con cioccolatini, marshmallow e sprinkles.

Saturday was Valentine’s day and I wanted to make something special for him, something that he didn’t expected. Some days before I was watching the Youtube channel of  Ochickeron and I saw her great idea of an edible chocolate photo frame, so I stole her idea and prepared some chocolates (we don’t have cute ones here in shops like they have in Japan, so I created some with my chocolate molds) and I assembled everything the night before Valentine’s day, while the kid was sleeping. I had fun creating it with chocolates, marshmallows and sprinkles.

Poi, al mattino, ho fatto un bel piatto per la colazione: un budino fragola-cioccolato che avevo preparato il giorno prima con frutta fresco, alcuni cioccolatini fatti a cuore che ho preparato io, alcune tipiche “chiacchiere” che ho comprato, altra frutta fresca e un bicchiere di latte con il cioccolato.

L’ho messo sul tavolo insieme alla cornice di cioccolato, i due piccoli regali che gli ho preso, il bigliettino di San Valentino e molti origami fatti a cuore.

Then, in the morning I created a nice plate for breakfast: a cherry and choco pudding I made the previous day with fresh fruits, some heart shape chocolates I made, some typical treats of this period (the supermarkets sell them for carnival) that I bought – they’re called “chiacchiere”, some more fresh fruit and a glass of choco-milk.

I placed it on the table with the chocolate photo frame, 2 little gifts I bought for him, the Valentine’s card and a lot of origami hearts all around.

Lui non si ricordava che fosse San Valentino e quando si è svegliato era molto sorpreso e felice.

Gli è piaciuta molto la cornice, e pensava che fosse così carina che fosse impossibile che non l’avessi comprata…ha voluto delle prove che dimostrassero che l’avevo fatta io! Ero molto contenta J

He didn’t remember it was Valentine’s day so when he woke up he was very surprised and happy.

He liked the photo frame so much and he thought it was so nice that he couldn’t believe I haven’t bought it and he wanted proofs I really made it at home! I was so happy J

Poi, ovviamente, tutti I pasti sono stati a tema san Valentino.

Pranzo: pasta al cacao fatta a cuore con speck, noci e panna e per dessert un muffin fatto a cuore con frutta fresca.

Cena: focaccia fatta a cuore con farcitura di prosciutto cotto e salame e a parte radicchio rosa.

Then all meals were about Valentines day, of course!

Lunch: heart shaped cocoa pasta with speck, walnuts and cream sauce and a heart shaped muffin with fresh fruits.

Dinner: heart shaped focaccia with ham and salami and pink radicchio salad.

Ovviamente abbiamo dato dei muffin e dei cioccolatini anche a nonno, nonna e zia.

We also gave some other muffins and chocolates to grandpa, granny and auntie, of course.

Gli sono piaciuti I giochini e ha giocato molto, e abbiamo anche giocato insieme e ci siamo divertiti. Alla fine della giornata era così contento che ha detto che quella è stato uno dei giorni più belli della sua vita! E mi ha dato i miei regali di San Valentino: tanti baci e abbracci J

Sono contenta di averlo fatto felice, è bello farlo sorridere.

He liked the little toys he received and he played a lot, we also played together and we had fun. At the end of the day he was so happy he said it was one of the best days of his life! And he gave me my Valentine’s day gift: many kisses and hugs J

So happy I could make him happy. It’s so nice to make him smile.

É un po' tardi, ma intanto che ci siamo vorrei condividere con voi anche il menù scelto per Setsubun 2 settimane fa.

Al mattino ho fatto un paio di  pancake a forma di orco ripieni di Nutella che gli sono piaciuti molto!

Come ho scritto qui, ho deciso di preparare gli ehomaki e ne ho fatte 2 versioni: una per il pargolo (in stile più occidentale) e una per me (in stile più giapponese).

It’s a bit late but I want to share with you also the menu for the night of Setsubun, 2 weeks ago.

In the morning I made a couple of pancakes with a ogre shape filled with Nutella that he liked a lot!

As I wrote here, I decided to make ehomaki, and I made 2 different versions: one for the kid (more western style) and one for me (more Japanese style).

Lui ha mangiato tutto l’ehomaki in silenzio come da tradizione. In realtà si è divertito perché cercava di comunicare con l’alfabeto muto che gli piace tanto.

He ate all his ehomaki in silence. He actually had fun because he tried to communicate using the kids’ dumb alphabet that he likes a lot.

Ho cucinato anche dei rotolini di pizza perché si dice che qualsiasi cosa di forma rotonda porti fortuna. Poi ho messo delle noccioline che sono tipiche di quel giorno, ed alcune patatine con la forma di corno di orco.

I also cooked little rolls of pizza as anything round is said to bring fortune. And I put on the table also peanuts, typical of this day, and also some potato chips that have a shape that looks like the ogre’s horn.

Lui si è divertito a lanciarmi I fagioli ed è andato a dormire sorridendo.

He had fun throwing the beans at me and he went to bed smiling.
